Who doesn't love hummingbirds? Hummingbirds are native to the Americas. With about 360 species you will find them from Alaska to Tierra del Fuego, but the vast majority are found in the tropics. They are small birds, with most species measuring 3 to 5 inches in length. The smallest hummingbird is the 2 inch bee hummingbird while the largest is the 9 inch giant hummingbird. They are specialized for feeding on flower nectar, but all species consume flying insects or spiders. This is a watercolor painting I created while participating in an art Challenge with other artists here at Fineartamerica. Our goal is to create a brand new piece of art each day for five days straight. The theme for this Challenge is the color GREEN. I will be creating watercolor paintings for the challenge as I aim to improve my watercolor skills. This is Day 4.
